Stores Impact

FENDI has been one of the first of the LVMH Group to embark on a journey to make all stores more efficient through the esteemed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

Store Certification

This ambitious certification program stands as the most widely adopted rating system for assessing the environmental impact of buildings, evaluating resource-efficient design, construction, operations, and maintenance of buildings.

1) LEED INTERIOR DESIGN + CONSTRUCTION CERTIFICATION

In 2023 FENDI obtained the LEED Interior Design + Construction (ID+C) Certification for 27 recently opened stores. This certification applies to new constructions and aims at developing indoor environments that are better for the planet and people. Looking ahead, the next target is to have further 16new stores globally certified under LEED ID+C by the end of 2024;

2) LEED OPERATIONS & MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION

With a commitment to enhancing the sustainability of its existing stores, FENDI has set ambitious targets through the implementation of the LEED Operations & Management (O&M) certification. This certification, tailored for existing buildings, aims at improving environmental impact, energy efficiency, and resource use while monitoring and ensuring the highest quality of indoor environments for both customers and employees.

In 2023, FENDI obtained the LEED O&M certification for 43 of its stores. Looking ahead, the next target is to have further 14 stores certified under LEED O&M by the end of 2024.

3) LIFE IN STORES CERTIFICATION

In addition to the LEED program, FENDI has also adopted the new LVMH LIFE in Stores Certification Scheme Version4, structured upon 36 quality requirements, surpassing or aligning with national and international standards and certifications, such as LEED, BREEAM, and HQE. Pioneering this initiative, FENDI first pilot implementation took place in MILANO GALLERIA in 2022, achieving the BRONZE level within the new certification protocol.

RENEWABLE SOURCES

Demonstrating commitment to protecting the environment, FENDI has made a strategic shift to 100% renewable energy sources for all its stores and sites by 2026. Currently, all electricity powering the stores and sites in Italy, France, Spain and the UK is sourced from renewable energy. The imminent objective is to extend this commitment to encompass the entire network in the near future.
For the countries where is not possible to procure renewable electricity supply contracts, FENDI is investing in Renewable Energy Certificates, RECs.

EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS

Stores serve as an important showcase of a brand’s commitment to sustainability, and in alignment with this ethos, FENDI has been working on a strategy to lower the environmental footprint of its stores worldwide. As part of the LVMH Group, FENDI has enthusiastically joined the LVMH LIFE in Stores Award initiative, which encourages LVMH Maisons to implement environmental best practices within the stores. In 2022 the Milano Galleria Store won the STORE AWARD for Air Quality.

In 2021 FENDI started a research and development program focused on a new LED lighting system. The first pilot project, carried out in the Montenapoleone store in Milan, resulted in a seamless transition to 100% LED lightning. The outcome was an improvement in lighting focus on merchandise, creating a more comfortable and elegant environment, which also led to a reduction of 30% of CO2 –equivalent emissions. This success has now become a Best Practice for all new store openings, and the objective in the near future is to extend this commitment to encompass all suitable stores within the network. In 2023 FENDI already achieved 89% of surface of stores entirely in LED.

Since October 2022, FENDI took onboard the LVMH Energy Efficiency Plan to reduce its electricity consumption.
Two key measures have been implemented:

  • Turning off the lighting of stores between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. and the industrial sites at 9 p.m.
  • Modifying the indoor temperatures in all industrial sites, administrative sites and stores, by reducing the winter set-point by 1°C and increasing the summer one by 1°C

ENERGY REPORTING

The Energy Reporting Project consists of the installation of a multi-meter within the electrical cabinet of the store. Energy Meters enable the remote real-time monitoring of actual energy consumption. This project offers many benefits, including the ability to compare and track consumption live, thus preventing wastage and inefficiencies.
In 2023 FENDI implemented this project, installing meters in 74 flagship stores, as represented in the mapping below.

Looking ahead, the target for 2024 is to expand this initiative by installing an additional 60 new meters.
