In a dedicated effort to improve its commitment to the preservation of the environment, FENDI embraced the opportunity to invest in three state-of-the-heart green plants.

This strategic initiative involved relocating the FENDI facility to the new shoe factory, based in Fermo, in the region of Marche, and establishing a new leather goods manufacturing plant in Capannuccia, in the picturesque Florentine Chianti region. These poles of excellence, where FENDI celebrates its core values of craftsmanship, artisanal savoir-faire, and environmental stewardship, were inaugurated in the fall 2022. Finally, in 2024 the reimagined site located in Milano Solari embraces a responsible approach to energy efficiency.

Capannuccia

The FENDI Factory, the new pole of excellence located in the heart of Tuscany’s countryside in Capannuccia (Bagno a Ripoli), near Florence, occupies an expansive 30,000-square-meter area that once housed the Fornace Brunelleschi kiln.

Construction began in August 2018, focusing on clearing and preparing the area, which had been in a state of neglect due to the past activities of the brick industry and the former quarry. FENDI’s main commitment was focused on revitalizing and harmonizing a place that had been degraded over the years.

Blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, FENDI Factory features a building developed on one main level, housing all the functions - production, laboratories, offices and services. Complementing this structure, a basement serves as a parking lot , while a first floor hosts the canteen with a direct view of the roof garden. The Factory is surrounded by seven hectares of greenery, which have been treated with utmost care: the landscape project of FENDI Factory’s park is designed with the aim of integrating it and landscape in a perfect mix of spontaneous woods and agricultural sceneries of the Tuscan countryside. Following the principles of sustainability that have driven the design of FENDI Factory, all furnishings are Made in Italy, with a focus on reusing and upcycling upholstered furniture and stock leather.

In keeping with the Roman luxury house’s continuous commitment towards sustainability, FENDI Factory has achieved the remarkable distinction of being the first Leather Goods factory to attain the prestigious LEED Platinum certification in 2023.

Fermo

This new site, a renovation of an existing one, covering an expansive 7,000 square meters,includes a range of manufacturing areas, offices, and warehouses.

The architectural design of the building expresses the Maison’s blend of artisanal savoir-faire and handcrafting integrated with technological transformations, all while maintaining the commitment to environmental sustainability. The structure boasts an impressive and innovative corrugated-aluminium façade, featuring a leather-like wave effect, lending a touch of modernity and minimalism. The lines between indoor and outdoor spaces are blurred through ribbon windows, large see-throughs, and open spaces, harmoniously integrated into the natural conformations of the surrounding landscape.

Designed with a commitment to have a low environmental impact, the building maximizes the use of natural daylight. Part of the electricity is generated through solar panels, harnessing plenty of sunlight that filters through large glass walls and skylights. Internal glass panels are strategically employed as internal partitions,ensuring a visual flow across all departments.

This new pole will not only be a hub for the operations, but will also contribute to have a positive impact on the local community and future generations. In collaboration with the State Professional Institute for Industry and Crafts 'Ostilio Ricci' in Fermo, the brand has initiated the first edition of the FENDI Shoes Master Class. The program is designed to train a new generation of specialised artisans, imparting the core values of craftsmanship, precision in work, manual skills, and creativity.

FENDI has initiated the ‘Adopt a School’, an educational project in collaboration with Altagamma and the ‘Ostilio Ricci’ Institute, also located in Fermo. The ultimate goal of the project is to fight unemployment and protect Italian manufacturing skills by fostering connections between the luxury industry - including fashion, design, hospitality, and automotive sectors - and Italian schools, mainly technical and scientific institutes.

Solari

In the vibrant heart of Milan’s fashion district, FENDI’s new space at Via Solari seamlessly weaves together industrial heritage and sustainable innovation. The building, once home to the historic Riva & Calzoni complex—where the first electric turbine for Niagara Falls was produced—now stands as a testament to both past ingenuity and future-forward design.

Reimagined to host showrooms, offices, and runway shows, the space embraces a responsible approach to energy efficiency. The adoption of direct expansion heat pump systems allows for precise climate control in each environment, drastically reducing reliance on the gas-powered thermal plant and significantly cutting CO₂ emissions. An advanced Building Management System (BMS) further optimizes energy consumption, dynamically adjusting temperature and lighting based on real-time usage.

Every detail of the project reflects FENDI’s commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions while preserving the Maison’s distinctive elegance. The result is a fluid and dynamic environment, where energy is used intelligently, and the interplay of natural light and refined materials creates an immersive atmosphere. The new Solari space is a manifesto of responsible innovation—an environment that honors its industrial past while embracing a bold vision for the future.
